Half Day Guided Sea Kayaking Marlborough Sounds

The half day guided sea kayak trip is an ideal opportunity to fit a little kayaking adventure into a busy day – or for those just wanting a taste of sea kayaking.

Our priority is to get you out on the water, allowing maximum time to enjoy the tranquil waters of the Queen Charlotte Sound. The area is surrounded by bush-clad shorelines and sandy beaches. We’ll stop for a light refreshment break along the way before returning to Picton.

We are pleased to offer both morning and afternoon trip departures. We can adjust the itinerary to suit the weather on the day, and on some occasions can organise for a morning departure instead of an afternoon, if required.

Morning Trip:

Departs Picton: 9.00am
Returns to Picton: 12.30pm

Afternoon Trip

Departs Picton: 12.30pm
Returns to Picton: 4.00pm

Meet at our office at 8.45am if you are on the morning tour, or 12.15pm for the afternoon tour, for a quick gear fitting and form filling before the drive to Ngakuta Bay (15 minutes).

Disembarking at Ngakuta Bay your guide will provide a safety briefing and gear check before you paddle out of the bay and into the Grove Arm. Along the way you will paddle past the bush clad shorelines and golden beaches that dominate the Grove Arm.

There are also plenty of beautiful holiday houses to admire as you paddle by. We will stop along the way for refreshments (tea and coffee provided), before paddling back to Picton and arriving at the foreshore around 12.30pm or 4pm.

If the conditions dictate, we may run this trip in reverse, or as a return journey.

I have never kayaked before, can I still do this trip?

Yes, many of our clients have never sea kayaked before but find it really easy to do.

I can’t swim, will I be okay?

Yes, you will be wearing a buoyancy aid and you will be travelling in a party with a guide, so the chances of you capsizing and falling out of your boat are minimal. Your guide will have provided you with a briefing on what to do if you do capsize.

Will I be back in time to catch a ferry or bus?

Yes, we can drop you straight to the ferry or bus terminal, if required.
